Friday 7/31/09 - "AMISH COUNTRY"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"AMISH COUNTRY"

Clippety-clop, faintest noise growing louder.
Small lane vanishing into a country by-way.

Simple beauty stole my breath away.
Grape vineyards far as the eye could see, clear brook, a neat small farmhouse off in the distance.

Alone save the small horse and buggy approaching.

Compelled....stop the car, jump out, lie down in green pastures.

Prayer Girl
(A memory of my first and only trip to the Pennsylvania Dutch Amish Country ~1970)

Good one! Is it a memory from your recent trip?
It is special to still see that way of life.

I like the simplicity of the Amish way of life--but I'd die if I didn't have my broadband connection to the world.

You would love Mackinac Island, between the lower and upper peninsula in Michigan.

I like the idea of lying down in green pastures. Unfortunately, the Amish are among the worst when it comes to running puppy mills. I can't get past the idea that they treat dogs like live stock. It doesn't jell with me.

PG, Ann H is so right..Mackinaw Island is our slice of heaven on earth.

Such a simple life. One that I wish we could all have at times.

hehe the amish are an amazing group; considering the ways of the world today, I find them amazingly strong, my father has many that live near him, I think he secretly wishes he was them... :) thanks for the post, which brings many fond memories to mind!
