Friday 10/15/10 - "MIRACLES ON THE WIND" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"MIRACLES ON THE WIND"

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." - Albert Einstein

Circumstances made her feel hopeless with no chance of a miracle. She thought to breathe deeply of the clear crisp wind where miracles might be carried.

Friday 10/8/10 - "HER HERO" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"HER HERO"

Daddy was her hero.
She knew she would never be able to fill his shoes.

Heck she couldn't pick them up.

If she tried to wear them they would be like her little jeans,

but without the top to cover her bottom.

What to do?

She was content to adoringly follow him everywhere he went.

Friday 10/1/10 - "LIAR! LIAR!" - Flash Fiction Friday

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"LIAR! LIAR!

Remembering the childhood chant:
Liar! Liar! Pants on Fire!

Wonder how many burned butts are hidden
under all those pairs of pants walking around!

Little white lies probably won't mar the spirit in any permanent way.

But those big black lies will twist and cripple the soul.

Liar! Liar! Ask forgiveness from God on Higher!

Friday 9/24/10 - "SENTINEL" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"SENTINEL"

The boulders one atop another stood sentinel to the field, basking in the sunlight.

Her stroll took her into this meadow never walked before.

She saw it. Imagination ran. Had beautiful celestial beings left this here? Someone's passion marked this spot in memory of lost love?

She sat by the stones warmed by the sun.

And whispered words, "I love you"

Gently spoken in my ear

Wanted:

A spiritual bond with you:
Solid
Unbreakable

Indivisible
Impenetrable
Eternal
God blessed

Status of this order:

Friday 9/10/10 - "NO 55 IN 55" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

Not my typical 55!

No matter the topic in my mind there were angry and sad thoughts.

Since it is I who face myself in the mirror each morning, it's my responsibility to use words that will insure I can look comfortably in that mirror.

To attain that goal it is best I be silent.

Friday 9/3/10 - "BZZZ" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"BZZZ"

Bzzz, Bzzz, the sound grew louder. "IT" was coming closer.
Heart beating wildly, she looked frantically for her husband, her "scary situation 'go to guy' ".
Her phobias included bats, bees, bugs, pet birds flying in confined spaces.
She was besieged with fear.
Then here he was beside her, removing "IT".
His willingness trumped any shortcomings.

Friday 8/27/10 - "THE ROCK GARDEN" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"THE ROCK GARDEN"

Playing alone in the rock garden she placed dandelions into a small bowl followed by hydrangea petals, grass, moss and water.

Using a small rock she began to mash this pretend mixture into a magic healing medicine.
She was 4.

The seeds of her healing gift that would emerge 56 years later were being nourished.

Friday 8/20/10 - "SANCTUARY" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"SANCTUARY"

She was searching for "sanctuary", silence, serenity.

After weeks she arrived at the seacoast driving the winding roads along the ocean cliffs.

It was late. She was tired, but felt the urge to stop.

Walking a narrow dirt path she suddenly saw silhouetted against the vanishing day, her "sanctuary".

The lighthouse was vacant, unlocked, hers.

Friday 8/13/10 - "GOOD MORNING GOD" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"GOOD MORNING GOD"

Each morning as she awakes, sometimes with eyes shut and sometimes open, she says, "Good Morning, God." She "plugs in", starting her day in prayer.

As the busy day progresses moments come reminding her to return to that connection with the power she lacks.

It is then that she pauses, silent, and says, "Hello, God."

Friday 8/6/10 - "TREE HOUSE" - a 55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"TREE HOUSE"

She lived alone in her precious tree house tucked deep in the forest. She arose to sunbeams peeking through lacy, wispy curtains. She meditated to chirping birds and the rustling of squirrels. Mornings were spent gathering berries for picnics on the grass by her quiet peaceful home.

In her heart and spirit, it was real.

Friday 7/30/10 - "INCONSOLABLE"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"INCONSOLABLE"

She was his first love, he her second.
They were inseparable. Love deepened
.
He left for college a year before her.

Not one letter or call came. He dropped off the face of the earth.

She was inconsolable. What was wrong with her? She felt worthless!

Many years later she understood he was spineless, gutless.

Friday 7/23/10 - "PLEASE LISTEN"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"PLEASE LISTEN"

She had received calls from three deeply troubled friends in just as many days.
Their despair sounded hopeless.

What to do? What to say?

She said a silent prayer then mostly listened as the conversations developed.

After an hour with each they all ended at the same exact place, the need for faith, for God.

Friday 7/16/10 - "PATIENCE GONE"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"PATIENCE GONE"

Her patience was used up, not one iota left.

That is why she found herself walking the countryside with God as her sole companion.

She had come upon this long ago laid fencing and as she followed it she breathed in the meadows, forests, mountains, and clouds.

Her patience space became freer with each step.

Friday 7/9/10 - "THE WAVE"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"THE WAVE"

She watched the sea of people.
The "wave" came as thousands in section one arose, raised their arms, cheered the upward motion.

Undulating movement swept through each section till she was standing, arms swinging up, shouting with joy.
Loud music accompanied each nation's flag as it was brought onstage.

The crowd roared; electric, magical, spiritual.

Friday 6/25/10 - "PRESCRIPTION"

FLASH FRIDAY 55

"PRESCRIPTION"

Life on a deserted island sounds good, but I need others.

My prescription for living life with people:

Memorize, meditate on the "Serenity Prayer".
Mind my own business.
Keep the focus on myself; my shortcomings, my spiritual growth.
Forgive often.
Create straight, strong boundaries with smooth, soft edges.
Do the next right thing.
Pray ceaselessly.

Friday 6/11/10 - "THE SEA?"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"THE SEA?"

Through eyes of soul and mind came creeping, peeping, pulsing, vibrant, shifting shades of kaleidoscopic hues.

Beauty, mystery, infinity captured there in the swirling subtle patterns of light and dark.

Where was she? Floating on an endless warm and gentle sea?

Then within she felt and knew her mother's swaying, singing, breathing filling all around.

Friday 6/4/10 - "SHEPHERD ME"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"SHEPHERD ME"

Shepherd Me, O God, beyond my wants and fears.
I long for a Northern summer home away from the tropical heat waves.
Wouldn't it be fabulous to roam Paris, Luxembourg and Rome?
Between my passions and reality lie rising costs,
dwindling resources and anxious concerns for loved ones.

This sometimes lost lamb needs a shepherd.

Friday 5/28/10 - "NOT HERE"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"NOT HERE"

Her flowing auburn hair fanned out over the white silk pillow.

Her richly brocaded blouse seemed to sparkle and vibrate with life.

Her eyes are closed, no movement of the silky top.

All this beauty is in stark contrast to gray, plastic skin.

Dressed up, but going nowhere.

Dressed up, but no one is home.

Prayer Girl

(This 55 came to life as a result of my being at a funeral yesterday evening for a beautiful 46 year young woman who finally lost her two year battle with the type of cancer that killed Farrah Fawcett. I was introduced to her by one of my sponsees and I only met her twice, but the first time I saw her I placed my hands on her. That created a special bond between us that I don't understand. I loved her.)

5/21/10 - "RECIPE FOR SERENITY - A SPIRITUAL RETREAT"

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"RECIPE FOR SERENITY -
A SPIRITUAL RETREAT"

Start with the rising scented smoke of
extinguished prayer candles
drifting to God.

Add to that the sweet fragrance of
night blooming jasmine.

Then review the past capturing the faith and trust
found in prior experiences.

And the final step is to take all this to an
11th step weekend spiritual retreat in Venice, Florida.
