FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55
"PERFECT FRIED CHICKEN"
I remember: aroma of flour-dipped chicken sizzling, popping in a cast iron skillet, tasty tiny pieces of crisp coating snitched from the platter, biting into that delicate crispness giving way to juicy tenderness.
Mom is gone, the recipe that was written in her mind gone with her. I'm still searching for that "perfect fried chicken".

I relate all too well to this one. A wonderful 55...
Anything with the words perfect and chicken in it, are a favorite in my book! Beautiful tribute 55 to your mom's cooking. TGIF
I love this, really love it. Of course I LOVE fried chicken too! We have an old wood stove outside at a cabin we own. We cook up fried chicken on it in a cast iron skillet every time we visit there. It is the best and thanks for making me want to go cook some:)
A tinge of sadness to this. It is things like this that make us remember warmly, though.
A great 55.

I linked over from Galens....my wife has a pie her grandmother made that we can't duplicate-very frustrating! Great post...
Aren't we all still searching for the perfect breast..
I do know how to make my mother's fried chicken because I watched her so many times. She dredged the washed chicken in flour, added lots of pepper and got the oil good and hot. Then she would fry it in a cast iron skillet until it was really crispy. Nothing fancy but really good.
what a lovely 55, i have my mothers recipe for turkey dinner and no one else does, i also know her world famous pumpkin pie recipe, though i don't like pumpkin pie. but she took those deviled eggs with her. i will never have another deviled egg. mines up too, a little late but i am catching up.
I can cook fried chicken the same as my mom and grandma did but it still doesn't taste the same, I think the missing ingredient is that a bit of them went in to it every time it was cooked. For the life of me I cannot master milk gravy made with the drippings, I love my moms gravy, if there was any left we would have it over bread as a kind of dessert.
Thanks for the memories, my mom is still alive be no longer knows how to cook like she use to, one of the sad facts of her growing old.
Gosh ---that made me hungry, even though I've sworn off fried food.
nothing beats a good fried chicken, and i think as hard as we try, we never seem to make ours nearly as perfect as our mother's. loved the 55, pg.
